The Jean Varda
Project is an on-going project.
The objective
is to learn about Jean Varda as both a person and an artist. Most
of the information about Varda is in each of you who knew him. You
are vital to this project. Varda did not leave behind any journals,
notes or even a body of work. It is only from the memory of those
who knew Varda that I can find answer the following questions:
1 - Where did you first see Varda?
How did you meet Varda?
When was that, what year?
What impression did you have of him at that time?
What is your favorite story about Jean Varda?
2 - What information do you know about Varda's art?
Did you take a class from Varda?
What did he teach?
What year?
How did he affect your art?
What did he say you could not do in a painting?
What should you do?
3 - What do you know about Varda's philosophy?
Did he define his theories?
Who were his influences?
How did he relate to his artwork?
Did he work on his collages everyday?
Did you ever go to a show of his art?
What city and gallery did you see him show in? When?
4 - What is Varda's background?
What are his parent's names?
Who are his relatives?
Where are his siblings today?
5 - Was Varda religious?
What was his vision of paradise, God, and the afterlife?
6 - Was Varda political?
How did he vote?
7- When did he make the collage you have (if you have one)?
What materials are/aren't in it (paper? fabric? paint? mirrors?
sand?)?
Which colors are used?
What is the title?
What was going on in the world during the time you got it?
How much did you pay for it?
