Who maintains the Jean Varda
Project website? :
The Jean Varda Project is maintained by Heide
Foley. She enjoys the creative arts and reserach. Her work focuses
on the excavation of information from public and private resources
on the art and artists who have contributed to our American culture
in California from 1930s to the present. She has a background in
the visual arts and history.
Regarding the Varda Project, Heide interviews professionals, locals,
artistans, friends & neighbors and anyone who claims to have
known or been influenced by Varda under any circumstance. She
has retraced many of Varda's travels, tracked down letters he wrote,
memories, stories, reminiscences and a few old photographs.
She has had the benefit of finding Varda references in newspaper
articles, magazines, industry journals, books and films. She is
also a volunteer at the Historical Society in Sausalito, California
where she lives.

The Jean Varda Project was started from a hobby
to satisfy the curiosity of finding out who Jean Varda was. The
results of that search have lead to further goals, such as, demonstrating
a body of work by Jean Varda, tracing his life through other artists
and contemporaries he knew, and seeking to understand his art theories.

Website Started? :
In June 2002 many questionaries, letters of interest, and other
probes were sent out to potential sources and due to the sufficent
number of responses the project has been continued.
